Fulbright Award Inter-American Studies, Iceland, Academic Year 2015-2016

The Fulbright Scholar competition for the academic year 2015-2016 launched last month, and Iceland is offering an award in Inter-American Studies. The selected candidate will spend three to five months at the University of Iceland in Reykjavik. The Council for International Exchange of Scholars administers the Fulbright Scholar Program on behalf of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

The University of Iceland, founded in 1911, is the oldest and largest university in the country. It is a modern and rapidly developing institution, and the majority of its permanent academic staff have studied and researched at respected foreign universities. The school’s Vigdis Finnbogadottir Institute of Foreign Languages is the main research center in area and language studies in Iceland.

This specific award is open to all levels of scholars except early career, and a PhD is required. The university’s Graduate Program in Inter-American Studies will launch in the fall of 2014, so the selected candidate will teach graduate courses and provide input on curriculum development. A complete award description, profile of the university, and list of application requirements can be found here in the catalog of awards.

More information about the Fulbright Scholar Program can be found on the following website, http://www.cies.org/, and the complete catalog of awards can be accessed online at http://catalog.cies.org/. As outlined in the Eligibility Guidelines, all applicants must be U.S. citizens. The current competition will close on August 1, 2014.
